Step Up on Vine
| Los Angeles, CA
Multi-Unit Housing
Step Up on Vine is recognized by the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) as an “innovative
combination of sustainability and green practices with providing housing for individuals
who are homeless and affected by mental illness.” The project has achieved a LEED
Platinum Certification.
Step Up on Vine incorporates 34 dwellings into a mixed-use commercial project located
in the heart of Hollywood, California. An iconic yellow arc welcomes and embraces
the community. Within the arc, a hotel-inspired lobby and dining area is bathed
in natural light. The same arc reappears at the breathtaking roof terrace, which
also includes an aeroponic vegetable and herb garden for the tenants. A first-floor
café with outdoor seating is open to the public and enlivens the streetscape.
Sustainable features were incorporated into individual units, common areas, building
systems, and landscaping in order to promote energy efficiency, water efficiency,
and indoor air quality. A GreenScreen© covering the front façade helps reduce the
heat island effect while lessening heat gain by shading the structure. Additionally,
the shadow boxes provide screening of the apartment units from the morning and afternoon
daylight.
The ground floor commercial use includes several residential community rooms, a
dining court with a commercial kitchen, offices, and a café.
